This is different to a standard steam clean. Each rug collected by us undergoes a bespoke cleaning treatment which may include the use of our top-of-the-range cage tumbler and centrifuge. Following a prewash inspection to ascertain which cleaning procedures will best suit the rug in question, Clean Plan Services’ technicians follow a specific regime:
Residual dust and soil, for example, must be removed from the rug before any water or wet cleaning products are applied. This process is the most important as we must ensure the fibres and primary backing are not broken or damaged. Depending on the type of rug in question, it will be cage tumbled where compressed air is carefully released through the backing in order to remove all contaminants from the fibres. The rug is then dusted in preparation for the next step.
Here we test every rug to make sure all colours are stable. If this is not the case we can usually ensure their stability by making them colourfast. Where the material is too delicate, a low moisture clean will be carried out instead. We don’t just spot test one area, we cover at least three in order to guarantee the entire rug will hold its colour during the cleaning process. The test used is left in place for at least 24 hours so we can be completely sure of the results.
Once we are confident the rug can be safely cleaned, it will then be taken through to our polished water rinsing process.
The rug is then given a cold water bath with a mild shampoo wash. We only use soft brushes to gently agitate the fibres before leaving the rug immersed to soak. Following a thorough rinse in which we ensure all cleaning products and chemical agents have been removed – from our own process and any manual cleaning methods you may have applied previously that are still lingering within the material – we’ll check the rug carefully to spot any new or previously missed issues. These will be reported to you immediately.
As the rug is drying, all parts are carefully brushed to promote softness, including the fringe. Once our technicians are satisfied the rinsing stage has been completed, we use our centrifuge or rug-sucking machine to remove the water. This process reduces the drying time significantly. What can last up to several weeks occurs over a maximum of two days, with 95% of any residual polished water removed within minutes. Thorough drying eliminates the risk of mould growth, colour run and browning.
This barrier coats each fibre in order to protect against re-soiling and staining. Any spillages that occur in the future can be easily mopped up without the need for more rug cleaning services.
